Have you ever gone fishing? I have, and most likely you have too. It used to be fun for me until one day my Dad and I were fishing, and he told me, “It’s kind of demeaning to us to be out here trying to outsmart a fish with an IQ lower than the water temperature.” I thought about that for a while. He was right. We were sitting out here as smart humans, trying to outsmart a fish, and for the most part the fish were winning.

There is a lot of confusion in the world right now; many don’t know the difference between right and wrong, male and female, good and evil, wisdom and folly. So I have to ask, Who is behind all this mess, anyway? You don’t have to look very far to find the author of confusion. We can see the beginning of his work against mankind starting in Genesis 3:1-13.

The LORD brought my attention to something interesting last night, in Mark 9:38-42 that I’d like to share with you today.
38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.
39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.
40 For he that is not against us is on our part.
41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
42 And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.

Today I’d like to talk about the impossibility of breaking God’s Word. Years ago I wrote an article called “When God breaks His promises”, and I remember receiving some replies back from some that said they took God at His Word, but He didn’t keep His promises. Now, it’s pretty hard to offend me, but when someone says God breaks His promises, they’re getting on the wrong side of me. No doubt, people are creatures of habit. When faced with a decision, nine times out of ten, people rely on their feelings to tell them what to do. Now, if you’re smart, you’ll rely on the Holy Spirit to guide your decisions. But most people only use the Holy Spirit for a backup, you know, after you’ve followed your feelings, and your decision crashed and burned, that kind of backup. We could sure save ourselves a whole lot of grief if we went first to the Holy Spirit.

When I asked the LORD what to write today, it must have taken all of five seconds for the answer, which comes from 1 Corinthians 13:1-2. It is written,
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

How often we put our confidence in what people tell us, even without knowing that person. Let’s say you’re traveling in another state and you’re out in the boonies and you get lost, what do you do? Most likely you will ask someone for directions, unless you’re a man that is, because you know men NEVER get lost, right?

As children, no doubt, we all pretended to be cowboys, or Indians, or princes or princesses, or policemen or firemen or something else. We were so much into our role playing that we thought we were really all of those things, so we know what it’s like. But do you know what? There are two words that you will NEVER find together in the Bible, and that is “GOD” and “PRETENDED”.
