There is a lot of confusion in the world right now; many don’t know the difference between right and wrong, male and female, good and evil, wisdom and folly. So I have to ask, Who is behind all this mess, anyway? You don’t have to look very far to find the author of confusion. We can see the beginning of his work against mankind starting in Genesis 3:1-13.

1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

Adam and Eve had a daily, close relationship with God, and He came and talked with them in the Garden of Eden. They were created in God’s image and likeness, so we know they were very intelligent. Adam and Eve were put in charge of the Garden, with only ONE rule to follow: not to eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. One rule, that’s all. Everything else was permissible. Now the Bible doesn’t tell us how long Adam and Eve enjoyed this relationship with God, but Genesis chapter three tells us when all the trouble started.

You see, the trouble started when the confusion started. The serpent brought confusion into the picture. Eve KNEW she was not to eat of that tree, no doubt about it, because she said so in verses 2 and 3. It wasn’t until the serpent told her in verse 4 that she would NOT surely die that she got confused. I can well imagine the conflict in Eve’s mind at that point, for she had never questioned what God had commanded them before.

Now, this situation could have ended quickly and well, had Eve not continued to listen to the serpent. But she did. And all mankind, and actually, the whole earth has suffered for it ever since.
God’s word tells us what is what. It tells us TRUTH, and no lie. On the other hand, Satan is the author of confusion.

What exactly is confusion? It is defined as lack of understanding, uncertainty, the state of being bewildered or unclear in one’s thinking. The Hebrew definition of “confusion” is “complication, intricacy, implication, entanglement, disorder, mix-up, mess, shambles, chaos, void, emptiness, error, fault, dislocation, breakdown, mixing, muddling, turmoil, pandemonium, shame, blushing, embarrassment, contempt”. There are more terms, and not any of them are favorable or desirable.

Look at the current events in the world, do you see any confusion? Satan’s influence in the world is far-reaching, right down into our communities and into our very families. Many have asked, “Has the world lost its mind?” Yes, it has. Only those who are walking close the LORD are not in confusion. The sad thing is, those who are confused don’t see the way out. If you preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to them, some will believe unto salvation, but others will remain in their confusion and be lost. And even though it isn’t the LORD’S will that any be lost, mankind has free will to CHOOSE who they will serve, God or Satan.

It is written in Hebrews 4:2, For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

Now you’re probably why in the world I’m introducing a scripture about FAITH into this article about CONFUSION. Faith is absolute trust in what God’s Word says, whether you think it makes sense or not. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. Now here’s where I’ll put it all together for you. When God told Adam and Eve not to eat of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, for a period of time, Adam and Eve took God at His Word and left that tree alone. You could say they were walking in faith, because they believed God. When the serpent introduced CONFUSION into the mix, that faith, that trust and absolute unquestioning belief in the Word of God broke down. And it all went downhill from there, unto this very hour.

If you want the Word of God to profit you, then you must mix FAITH with it. Confusion brings doubt and unbelief with it. So when you read something in God’s Word, on one hand you may want to lay hold of the promises, thinking you believe them, but on the other hand, you’re not too sure? That’s how a whole lot of people think. It is written in James 1:5-8,
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Now, looking back at the definition of CONFUSION, you can see it all right here. When you pray in doubt, unbelief, and confusion, you’re wasting your prayers. Don’t do that!
James 4:7-10 says,
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

There’s how Eve messed up. She HAD submitted herself unto the LORD, but she questioned His Word and got in confusion and ended up deceived and losing her blessing. She DIDN’T resist the devil, therefore he did NOT FLEE from her. As I said earlier, had she stuck with God’s Word, she would have done just fine, but she didn’t.

When YOU get off of God’s Word, YOU will end up in confusion, and YOU WILL BE DEFEATED BY THE DEVIL EVERY TIME!

You must confront confusion and refuse it! God will not do it for you. James 4:7 again says, (YOU) Submit yourselves therefore to God. (YOU) resist the devil and he (the devil) will FLEE from you. I like that word FLEE, it means he will leave quickly, as in terror for his life, for he KNOWS if you stand firm on God’s Word, he has no chance of defeating you. Confusion is one of his mightiest weapons. With it he has caused many a man or woman of God to doubt God’s Word and lose their blessings, or their healing, or their very life.

Don’t YOU be a victim of confusion. God said what He meant, and meant what He said! God’s Word is forever settled in heaven. YOUR job is to get God’s Word forever settled in YOU! Once that happens, that’s when you become what’s called an OVERCOMER! No matter what the devil tries to throw at you, he can’t hurt you. CONFRONT CONFUSION AND REFUSE IT!
