Through my nearly 28 years in ministry, I’ve heard so many people talk about “their ministry” work. And for as many people you ask what their ministry is, you’ll get that many different answers. Many of those works are good and helpful, although that’s not always true, evidenced by how much strife and division there is in the Body of Christ.
Before going any further, let me say this; Christ Jesus gave us our ministry assignment. We were never in the scriptures told to choose our ministry, it just isn’t in there anywhere. When we look in the Gospels, we find the last thing the Lord Jesus told the disciples before He was taken to heaven were these things recorded in Matthew, Mark, and Luke.
Matthew 28:16-20,
16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Mark 16:14-20,
14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
Luke 24:44-53,
44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
46 And said unto them,Thus  it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48 And ye are witnesses of these things.
49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.
51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.
52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:
53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.

So compiling those instructions, what do we come away with?
ALL power is given unto the Lord Jesus in heaven and on earth. ALL POWER, no exceptions.
From Acts chapter 2 we know the Holy Spirit descended upon all the believers present in the upper room, and they were endued with power from on high. In other words, it was time now to go OUT and preach the Gospel everywhere.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things.
And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

These recorded instructions ARE your ministry assignment. If you aren’t doing those things, then you’re not in ministry. Now I realize there were literally multitudes that FOLLOWED Jesus, but not all those were called into ministry. Such is the situation in all the churches today. We see many seats taken in churches, but very few of those are out doing the work that Jesus said BELIEVERS would do. They are “hearers only” and not “doers of the work”.
That is very sad to me. What the purpose of assembly is, is to preach the Gospel, in order that people might hear and become BELIEVERS unto salvation, being one who puts action to his or her salvation and preaches the Gospel. Is there a difference between a follower of Jesus and a BELIEVER? Apparently so, because, as it says in Mark 16:15-18, Jesus described EXACTLY what a BELIEVER would do:
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

So there we have our ministry assignment. No more “my ministry is this or that” stuff. If we’re not doing what Jesus said we should do, then we’re out of order according to what He said. So if we consider ourselves “believers”, then there should be the fruit of it for all to see, amen?
