More times than I can count, I’ve been told that no matter what, God is in charge. And that is true, “up to a point”. But you see, it’s like a person in a rented house; the landlord may own the home and all that, but by my firsthand experience, I’ve seen renters trash a home. Now tell me, was that the landlord’s will that his house was trashed? NO! So the landlord’s will obviously was not done.

Our time on this earth is drawing to a close, either by the return of Christ Jesus, or by our own “expiration date”, whichever comes first. And so, knowing that, our priority should be on doing that which is most important FIRST, then doing those things less important. So, what’s YOUR first priority? Unless you’ve lived alone in a cave all your life, you’ve probably had opportunity to have your feelings hurt many times over. And one by one, these offences stick to you like scales on a fish, until you’re covered with them, and your heart says, “Nobody will ever hurt me again.” But that’s a lie, because offences come on a daily basis, and some people are “offence magnets”. They just seem to take everything and everyone wrong, until their “armor” is so thick, their heart can no longer be touched. And that’s not what God wants for us.

“Waste not, want not” is an old proverb first recorded in 1772, and a statement similar to that was recorded earlier in the 1500’s, which is as useful today as it was back then. When we make good use of what we already have available, it keeps us from having lack in that area.

This is the season when people ask one another, What do you want for Christmas? But what about the REST of the year? What do you want? I can think of several things I’d like to have; peace on earth, kindness from each of us, nobody hungry or homeless, to name a few. But let’s be realistic: as a default condition, mankind’s heart is evil, and that’s why the world is in the mess it’s in. Can we do anything about it? Yes, and no. On our own, very little, but with Christ Jesus, we can be thoroughly changed from the inside out. EVERY SINGLE DAY!

Just a moment ago I was remarking to my wife how it seemed like just yesterday it was the first of August, and now we’re in the third week of September already. Where has the time gone? When we were kids the time would just drag on, and we couldn’t wait until we were “big”, whether that was ten, or twelve, or fifteen. But now, my, how time flies. I remember a saying from one frog to another while they were sitting on a lily pad, “how time is fun when you’re having flies”. I just got off the phone with a telemarketer, wanting to give me a two week vacation in the Bahamas. And he said, “and you can have it for FREE!”. Yeah, right, what’s the catch? You see, when you’re dealing with the world, there’s ALWAYS a catch. Well, the catch is, you have to do so many presentations per day of their product while you’re there, and if you sell the required number of product, your trip is free. Less airfare, meals, hotels, local taxes and gratuities, of course. Thank you, but I’ll pass…..
