GRACE VERSUS LAWLESSNESS

It is written in Matthew 5:14-19, and these are the very words of Christ Jesus,
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Continue Reading »

A CAN OF WORMS

I’ve been known at times to open a can of worms. Today I will attempt to do exactly that. During this past week I’ve had some conversations concerning law and grace, which seem to go as well together as oil and water. Are we under the law, or are we under grace? Are we still to keep any of the Old Testament, or are we only under the New? Let’s do some exploring today, and I think you’ll find it to be interesting. Maybe you’ve thought about these things, maybe not.

WILL I FIND FAITH ON EARTH?

Today I’d like to draw attention to something Jesus spoke in Luke 18:1-8, which seems to many to be contradictory in its nature:
1  And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
2  Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? Continue Reading »

THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

We hear so much about “blessings”.  What exactly are they, and whom do they pertain to, and how do we get them?  After all, we want to be blessed, right?  Well, the Old Testament talks a lot about blessings, and God always tells us in His Word, that His blessings are for those who are diligent to obey His Voice.  Here is just a small sampling of blessings from Deuteronomy 28:1-14: Continue Reading »

HAVE ANOTHER LOOK AT THE SABBATH

There is a story in John chapter 5 about a man who was sick for thirty eight years, and Jesus met him on the Sabbath.  The Bible doesn’t tell us exactly what the sickness was, or how he ended up with it, only that Jesus loosed him from that burden on the Sabbath.  Let’s read about it here: Continue Reading »
