WHEN THE ROLL IS CALLED UP YONDER

There’s an old hymn called “When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder”, and you’ve probably heard it many times. That got me thinking today. The line in the song says, “When the roll is called up yonder I’ll be there”. There’s a million things you could be doing when Jesus returns. When He calls out His own, “THERE” is where you want to be, not somewhere else. I’ve said it before, “You don’t want to be at the airport when your ship comes in”. And sadly, not everyone is going to be “there” when the roll is called.

PLEASING GOD VERSUS PLEASING PEOPLE

Whether they realize it or not, many people are more concerned with pleasing people than they are pleasing God.  When you look on Facebook, for example, people want you to “like” their comments.  They want to please people and be noticed and approved by others.  Is that a bad thing?  Not necessarily, after all, we don’t want people NOT to like us.  But what about Christians, should we be pleasing to everyone?   From time to time I read some very critical posts on Facebook about Christians, some even blame all the world’s problems on Christians.  It seems to me rather, that the vast majority of people are willing to “go along with the crowd” to be acceptable to them, even if what they do goes against what God approves of. KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE

When you’re driving down the road you see many kinds of drivers.  Some are paying attention to what they’re doing, some are talking on phones or texting, or some may be eating.   I’ve seen women driving down the road putting on their makeup, and still others reading a book or paper while driving.  We call that “distracted driving”, because your full attention isn’t on your driving.
