The topic today is the question, Why did Christ Jesus come to earth? The answer has many facets, but they all point to one purpose, stated in 1 John 3:8, He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Well, we are ALL sinners, it says that in Romans 3:23, For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.  No matter how hard we try, we cannot escape that fact. And God did NOT create mankind to be sinners, but rather sons and daughters. God created us in HIS image, not the devil’s, therefore He had something wonderful in mind for us, not sin, sickness, and hell. So in order that we might fulfill what we are created for, we needed a redeemer, so God sent Christ Jesus to redeem us from our sins. I especially like the latter part of 1 John 3:8, “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, THAT HE MIGHT DESTROY THE WORKS OF THE DEVIL.” He didn’t say “that He might CONFIRM the works of the devil.”

It seems that WE continually confirm the works of the devil, though, by our words, “I just can’t get ahead”, “Everything I do goes wrong”, “I just can’t seem to get well, no matter how hard I pray”, “Nobody likes me”, and so forth. That isn’t what God created us to say. So why are we doing it? Most people just don’t seem to know any better. And even if we do, we just keep listening to the lies of the devil, and speaking his lies, and receiving the fruit thereof. We need to change, and Christ Jesus told us so. He not only told of His Father, but showed us His Father’s will by all He said and did. If we really listen to our words, we quickly find most of what we say lines up with the devil, not God. And that needs to change, and right now.

Sin is transgression against God’s Word and will, and everything the devil does is aimed at getting us to doubt the integrity of God’s Word, and to speak and act against it. Jesus summed it up really well in John 10:10, “The thief cometh not, but for to kill, and to steal, and to destroy; but I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” It certainly isn’t “life more abundantly” when you can’t pay your bills, or you’re flat on your back sick, or both. Satan is the destroyer, not God. Yet, so many seem to blame their problems on God, when the truth is, God is not their problem, but their deliverer. Jesus said in Luke 9:56, For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. You need to remember that the next time you’re facing problems. God isn’t your problem, He’s your SOLUTION!

After a day of teaching, Jesus sent the multitude away. Let’s pick it up in Mark 4:35-41,
35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

So many people tell me when they’re in the middle of a storm or trial in their life that “Nothing happens to us unless GOD ALLOWS IT”. Here, I’m going to step on many religious toes, and without apology.  GOD DID NOT SEND THAT STORM TO DESTROY THE DISCIPLES; SATAN DID! Not only were the disciples out there during that storm, but you’ll notice in verse 36, “And there were also with him other little ships”. They were ALL in peril. That was not the work of GOD, so don’t blame Him. Plainly it was the work of the devil. And I want you to see that. Read verse 39 again, now if God sent that storm, and Jesus rebuked and calmed it, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN TRANSGRESSION AGAINST HIS FATHER! Can you see that? Jesus was doing the will of His Father by cancelling the work of the devil.

Now when you’re sick, there’s ALWAYS some “Bible scholar” telling you that God is trying to teach you something with your trials. That “Bible scholar” is working for the devil, because God does not make His kids sick to teach them something, any more than YOU would make one of your kids sick to teach them something! It is written in Luke 6:17-19,
17 And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases;
18 And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed.
19 And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.

Jesus healed them ALL, not telling any that they need to “suffer sickness for the glory of God”. I don’t know where people get that garbage about suffering sickness for God’s glory. The devil sure has them deceived, and that’s just the way he wants them to be, so he can kill them off with cancer and other diseases. That passage alone shows us it is not God’s will for mankind to be sick and afflicted. Jesus said He only did that which is His Father’s will, and in another passage said, “I and my Father are One.” Christ Jesus came to RELIEVE people of their torments, not GIVE them torments.

We need to learn to put the blame where it belongs. Satan is out to destroy us, and Jesus came to SAVE us, and destroy the devil’s works. And sickness is certainly the devil’s work, because God did not create mankind sick. Many people think you’re nuts to say it’s God’s will for them to be healed, yet, those same people will run to the doctor trying to seek treatment to get well. If they truly believe it’s God’s will for them to be sick, then why don’t they just stay sick and be content with it? That’s because deep inside, whether they want to acknowledge God or not, they just know it isn’t right to be sick! Even unbelievers know we’re not supposed to be sick.

Acts 10:38 says, How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

That’s pretty clear, wouldn’t you say? We don’t need anyone to explain that verse to us. Sickness is oppression of the devil, plain and simple. If God was the one making people sick, and Jesus was going around healing the sick, God’s house would have been divided, and cannot stand. But it is the DEVIL’S work that Jesus was destroying by healing the sick and casting devils out of the oppressed.

I find it amazing how many people have been deceived into thinking God makes them sick, or “allows” sickness to come upon them.  Satan is the author of sickness and death, and it came upon mankind back in the Garden of Eden when the serpent (Satan) deceived Eve and talked her into taking and eating the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil and giving it to Adam. Today, people run to the doctor trying to get well, yet the doctors can’t even cure and eliminate the common cold, let alone diabetes and cancer.

James 1:13-17 says, 13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: note
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Healing is a good and perfect gift from above, and God wants you to have it RIGHT NOW, TODAY! You know where I’m going with this; it is written is Psalm 103:2-3, “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits; who forgiveth all thine iniquities, who healeth all thy diseases.”

Ephesians 3:7-12 says,
7 Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.
8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:
12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.

Did you notice what it says in verse 10? Our job is to notify the principalities and powers in heavenly places that Christ Jesus has given us POWER and AUTHORITY by the manifold wisdom of God, over the works of the devil, and his works are NOT going to rule over us!

Luke 10:19-20 says it all, Friends! Jesus said, 19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

Now that you know why Christ Jesus came, what are you going to DO about it? If I were you, I’d use that knowledge to get free of the devil’s oppression and get well!
