WHAT’S ON GOD’S MIND?
Have you ever asked yourself “What’s on God’s mind today?” One day when I did that, I heard in my heart, so clearly that every cell in my being heard it: YOU ARE!
What? Why in the world would God think about me, a mere human being? I mean after all, I’m not the center of the universe; He has the entire creation to think about. He has all of the angelic host in heaven, every galaxy, every star, every solar system in the whole universe, as well as every creature on the face of the earth and under it to think of. Why me?
He simply said, You’re on MY mind because I’m on YOUR mind. And He reminded me of verses in Psalm 91; Because He has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him.
It’s hard for me to imagine that Almighty God himself would honor me, a mere man, why would He do that? Because I have set my love upon Him, I am on His mind. I’m not saying that in a conceited way, for I’m not the only one on God’s mind, oh no, not by a long way. When the Lord Jesus was praying in the Mount of Olives, so earnestly that He sweated great drops of blood, we were on His mind. Surely there was something else He would rather have been doing that night than agonizing over a bunch of rebellious sinners. When He was hanging on that cross, suffering more than any other human could possibly imagine, we were on His mind. He stayed on that cross until He died, in order to ransom us from sin and death, and He was the only one who could do it, for there was no other one among us without sin.
I for one cannot imagine the love it took for Jesus to do what He did for us. And for us to say that God is not thinking of us, to me, borders on blasphemy. We have our thoughts every day, usually about what we want or need to do. Those thoughts consume the lives of many, and God is not on their mind. Before I asked the Lord Jesus to be my Lord and Savior, my thoughts were pretty much about the big three: me, myself, and I, and there wasn’t much room left for God. And that’s pretty much the way it is for everyone. But yet, even though He is not in the thoughts of the lost and unsaved, they are in His thoughts. While we may write some people off as a lost cause, the Lord has not done so, for His love is not like ours. We love conditionally, He loves unconditionally. That means His love doesn’t have strings or conditions attached. He loves us whether we love Him or not. I think it’s a shame to waste a love like that.
My early years were spent looking for love in all the wrong places, as the song said. All the love I could ever dream of was waiting for me in a relationship with God, yet because I couldn’t see or touch Him, that love didn’t seem real to me. There are many who go from relationship to relationship searching for their soul mate, and never finding that right person, because they are looking for the perfect love. Let me tell you, there is no such thing as a perfect love if you are looking anywhere else but to God. But once you have experienced God’s unconditional love, it starts rubbing off on you, and you start looking at people in another light, one that is more forgiving and less critical and judgmental. God has a way of softening the edges of even the hardest heart. He has certainly touched my heart with amazement at the way He shows mercy to those who don’t deserve any mercy at all. If anyone ever could be said to have a hard heart, it was me. God still has a lot of work to do in me before I will be able to say I love others unconditionally. But because I have set my heart upon Him, He is being patient and merciful with me. Some days I surely try His patience, but He hasn’t given up on me, rather, He just pours out more mercy and grace, as an example for me to do likewise to others.
It is said we learn best by example, and the Lord is a most gracious teacher. We grump and complain, doing hurt unto others and ourselves, deserving the wrath of God most every day, yet because we were on Jesus’ mind that day on the cross, there is hope for every one of us. Whatever your estate is in this life, rich, poor, gracious, or mean, young or old, male, female, or even if you’re not sure which, you’re on God’s mind right now. He loves you with an everlasting love, and has your best interest at heart, not willing that you perish, but have everlasting life. He wants that for you so much that He gave His only begotten Son as payment for your ransom. Jesus said in John 12:32, And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
Well, it happened just like it was planned from the foundation of the earth, Jesus was lifted upon the cross, died, rose again, and sits in heaven at His Father’s right hand. And guess what? You are STILL on God’s mind, even this very moment. He has set His love upon you for all eternity, drawing you unto Himself that He may share His love with you forever..
And now……..you know what’s on God’s mind. Will you set your love upon HIM?
