Year after year, I hear Christians ask the same question, “What am I called to do?” That seems to be question they all ask after getting saved. Well, the answer is pretty simple, it’s just that most Christians just don’t want to do it, they’d rather continue doing what THEY want to do, and then somehow get God to bless it.

When reading the instructions the Apostle Paul gave Timothy, it was very clear what Paul’s intentions were, and that was to preach the Gospel to faithful people who would in turn teach others also.  And through the past two thousand years, the mission statement has not changed: PREACH THE GOSPEL. In the first couple chapters of Acts, we can read of how THOUSANDS were added to the body of believers in just a very short time.  But gradually that has fizzled out today, because the Gospel has been sidetracked by people distorting it to make it sound pleasing to our flesh.  The Gospel doesn’t need “flowering up”.  It needs to be preached as it was given to the Disciples.   Jesus wasn’t preaching to our flesh, He came to save our soul.

But somehow, those have entered in who have tickled people’s ears and have led them away from the true Gospel that Jesus preached, and what the original disciples preached. Some have done it out of hate for God, and others have been doing it in order to promote their own prosperity. And some think they love God, but also want “their cut” from it.   Let’s look at what Paul said in 2 Timothy 2

2Ti 2:1  Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2Ti 2:2  And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
2Ti 2:3  Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
2Ti 2:4  No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

The LORD gave me this word in the middle of the night: “There are those who preach on the TV and Radio and other media to win souls for Me .  And there are those who sit at home and watch or listen to those preachers.  Do you know what the difference is?  The difference is, one loves Me and is busy doing My work, and the other SAYS they love Me, but is offering Me lip service only.” And He would know, wouldn’t He?

2Ti 2:10  Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

2Ti 2:11  It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
2Ti 2:12  If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
2Ti 2:13  If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.
2Ti 2:15  Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

2Ti 2:19  Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
Here I see something noteworthy: Paul admonished those who are Christians to DEPART FROM INIQUITY.  Some say because we are under grace that we can just live any old way we want to and Christ will look the other way.  Not so.  He came and offered Himself as our Redeemer, but that doesn’t mean we can continue living in sin. This is a popular diversion from the Gospel that Jesus preached.  He said REPENT from your sins, that means, STOP DOING THEM!!

2Ti 2:20  But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
2Ti 2:21  If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.
How can we consider ourselves “fit for the Master’s use” if we don’t do what the Master says?
2Ti 2:22  Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
2Ti 2:23  But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.

2Ti 3:1  This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2Ti 3:2  For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
2Ti 3:3  Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
2Ti 3:4  Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2Ti 3:5  Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

Wow!  Does that sound familiar?  Sure does!  We certainly have our work cut out for us.  Here we see our assignment: “Do the work of an evangelist”, and that isn’t just to Timothy, that’s to ALL who are Christians.

2Ti 4:1  I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2Ti 4:2  Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
2Ti 4:3  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2Ti 4:4  And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

This same thing has been going on ever since the first disciples were here, people distorting the Gospel so it would appeal to men’s fleshly lusts, and for years it’s been the “prosperity gospel”.  Well I believe the LORD wants His people blessed, that’s for sure.  I don’t think God put the good things of the earth here for the devil and his crew to enjoy, BUT, as the Lord Jesus said in Matthew 6:33, Seek ye FIRST the Kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. He did NOT say, Seek ye first money and fame.  You see, all this stuff appeals to our flesh, and we can reason in our mind until it SOUNDS like the Gospel that Jesus taught His disciples, and what THEY preached.  But it ISN’T.  It is written in Jude 1:3-7,

Jud 1:3  Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
Jud 1:4  For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jud 1:5  I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.
Jud 1:6  And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
Jud 1:7  Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
2Ti 4:5  But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

Whatever the current craze is, that is what some preachers preach, and thereby lead many astray.  The Gospel of Jesus Christ isn’t about popularity, it isn’t about getting rich and living a comfortable life.  It’s about repenting of one’s sins and turning with one’s whole heart to serve God.  Doing what?  Glad you asked!  Winning souls for our LORD!  He told me, “There are shining stars of the LORD, and there are stargazers.  Which will you be?”

It is written in Daniel 12:3, And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
It is written in Proverbs 4:18, But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.
And in Proverbs 11:30, it says, The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise. If YOU want to be wise, you will win souls for Jesus.

So there you have it.  God has saved you and called you for a purpose, and that is spread the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost and unsaved. If you’re really appreciative of what the Lord Jesus did for you on that horrible cross, you would be eager to tell others every single day, so that THEY may be saved, too.  And of course you ARE, right?  Then what are you waiting for?  Get out there and win souls for Jesus!!  And you will be wise, and shine like the stars in the heavens.
