There is a tactic the devil uses and passes on from one generation to another. It is called “worry”. My Grandma was a worrier, my Mom was worrier, and I was a worrier. And the line went a lot farther back than Granny. I even read that Job was a worrier too, in Job 1:5, he worried that his sons had sinned, and he offered sacrifices for them. And thus Job did continually. In Job 3:25 he said,”For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.” He was a world class worrier. And actually, the devil doesn’t need to come up with a new trick, when the old one works so good for him.

Do you know what the root of it is? It is fear. The devil is trying to get everyone in the world to live in fear. Fear of where the next attack will be. Fear of what the economy will do. Fear of who will be the next victim. Fear of losing a job. Fear of marriages not working out. Fear of not having a place to live. Everything we worry about is that which we fear, no matter what the name of the worry, it is still fear. And we know who is behind it, and it isn’t God. Fear comes from the devil. The Bible says in 1John 4:18,“There is no fear in Love; but perfect love casteth out fear: Because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”

Let me take a can opener and open that up for you, it’s a full can to be sure. There is no fear in Love. Let’s start at square one, God is love.  Perfect Love, that is God, and your knowing that He is on YOUR side,  casts out all your need to worry about ANYTHING! For it is written, If God be for you, who can be against you?  Knowing His Perfect love for you casts out fear: because fear hath torment. God made a way for you to get rid of torment, and that is by casting all your fears upon Him. He that feareth and worries is not made perfect (mature) in the knowledge that he (or she) can fully trust and rely on God, or in LOVE, according to 1 John 4:18.
Read the 23rd Psalm and substitute “Love” for “The Lord” and “He”, “Thou”, “Thy”, “Goodness and Mercy”, and read it again:
PSALM 23

The Lord (LOVE) is my Shepherd; I shall not want. I shall suffer no lack for any good thing, Love will see to it, for He loves me exceedingly! My every need is met!
He (LOVE) maketh me to lie down in green pastures; Not in the briars and poison ivy, not in the dry, dusty desert, but in a lush place of plenty, for He loves me! And, I can lie down because I have no fear I might need to run for my life. I like this place.
He (LOVE) leadeth me beside the still waters; the beautiful, peaceful, clear, cool waters, not the mudhole, not the dried up little puddle, but the living waters, for He loves me!
He (LOVE) restoreth my soul: Oh yes! In the midst of adversity, my soul has rest and delights in Him, I am in perfect peace. Why? Because HE LOVES ME! I am His beloved, and when the devil comes to get me down, He comes to pick me up.
He (LOVE) leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Just in case I get to thinking He would ever abandon me on the path, and let me get lost, I’m reminded He is leading me for His name’s sake.
He is love, there is no other way He can behave. That’s all He knows how to do. And His path is righteousness, and He will lead me to His house and invite me in, because He loves me!
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou (LOVE) art with me: Did you notice it says “valley of the SHADOW of death”? It didn’t say the “valley of death”, but just the “shadow”. Tell me, have you ever been bitten by the “shadow” of a dog? Didn’t think so. I will fear no evil, for God is with me. And He’s bigger than anyone else around. And He carries a real big stick. More about that next verse…
Thy (LOVE) rod and thy staff they comfort me. A rod is used for correction…and when the devil sticketh his nose too close to you, the Lord (LOVE) whacketh him with the rod right across the nose. I like that part! His staff, like the shepherd’s staff, has a crook on one end, and is straight on the other. Like a letter “J” (which stands for Jesus, by the way). He will use the hooked end to pull you out of harm’s way, and use the other end to guide you left or right, keeping you on the path of righteousness for His name’s sake (for He promised He would never leave you or forsake you), or to gently give you a little prod when needed to get you going.
Thou (LOVE) preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Let’s take a good look at this one. Many think that when they get to heaven God will prepare a table for them in the presence of their enemies. Think again. There won’t be any enemies in heaven. God is going to prepare a table of blessings for you right here on earth, in front of your enemies, and there isn’t a thing they or the devil can do to stop Him. And guess who is the guest of honor? That’s right! It’s YOU! How’s that for love?
Thou (LOVE) anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Ever try filling a cup over full? Well God is going to fill your cup of blessings too full. And He is going to just keep pouring it on. It’s going to run over all over your head, all over your cup, all over the saucer, all over the table, too much blessings, too full a cup. He’s the God of “TOO MUCH” Too much love, too many blessings. He is “El Shaddai, not El Cheapo!”
Surely Goodness and Mercy (LOVE) shall follow me all the days of my life: Where will Love follow you? Anywhere in the universe you go. You can’t go far enough that He isn’t there. And guess what He has with Him? He is carrying His cup of blessings to pour it all over you (remember the last verse? Hello! Why? Because He loves you!
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord (LOVE) for ever! Wow! What a wonderful place to live. And your lease is never up and you never have to move out. And the rent’s paid forever by the blood of Jesus. Why? Surely you know by now,
BECAUSE HE LOVES YOU!
NOW, TELL ME WHAT YOU WERE WORRIED ABOUT…..?
