It is written in Isaiah 55:11, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” I’m often asked, “OK then, when someone prays or speaks the promises of God, and they don’t see it happen, what’s with that?”  So that’s our subject today. Go grab a cup of coffee and let’s explore this.

The first part of that verse that gets my attention is, “So shall be MY WORD that goeth forth out of MY MOUTH….” We know by reading Genesis chapter one that God brought forth all the creation by His Words. We see no written testimony that He sent His Word and it failed to bring forth what He said. There is no testimony that He had to keep speaking it over and over again until whatsoever He was creating finally relented and did things His way. He said it once, and it was done, period. But that is HIS WORD. What about OURS?

Genesis 1:26-27 says, 26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Mankind is the only creature able to think and form words from those thoughts, and speak them forth. Parrots and some birds can imitate what they hear, but they cannot converse in words as mankind does. God not only allowed mankind to speak, but to freely think and speak as they desire. Now, Genesis chapter one records God as speaking ten times that which He was creating. Verse 31 says, And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. So here God saw the manifestation of His Words. Does mankind also see the manifestation of his words?

We only have to look around and we can see the very manifestation of our words, which has caused hatred and strife and division all over the world. Indeed, we have created our world by our words, only, it’s not the world we would like to have, is it? When GOD spoke, all was wonderfully made. When WE speak, not so much. So it really isn’t a question IF we can create our world by our words, it’s more a matter of what kind of world we are creating with our words.

Have you ever really listened to your own words? Right now, don’t worry about what someone else is speaking, just pay attention to your own words. Now what kind of world would you create if you knew that every word you said would come to pass? After all, God created His world with His words, and you’re made in HIS image, because Genesis 1:26-27 says so.

Now keep in mind that whatsoever you speak cannot be recalled, but it will go forth and create exactly what you said. What’s that you said first thing this morning? You were complaining about your joints being stiff? Whether you realize it or not, you were creating your world by your words. You say, no, you were just telling it like it is, your joints are stiff. Well, let me help you here: in your home you have a thermometer and a thermostat that operates your heating and cooling system. The thermometer “tells it like it is”, whether it’s 60 degrees or whatever. But the thermostat operates differently. It tells the heating and cooling system what temperature it wants, and the unit works on that demand until it has produced that temperature. The thermostat doesn’t “ask for”, it “demands”, and the unit obeys. And the thermostat never makes a demand on the unit that is not fulfilled, unless the unit itself is broken. I think that’s the best illustration I can make on the use of our words.

Now there are two kinds of people: thermometers, and thermostats. Thermometer people are always telling it like it is: “I’m so broke, I can’t pay my bills.”I never have enough money.”Oh, my arthritis is killing me.” “My doctor just said I have cancer, and I just don’t know what to do.” “Nothing ever works out right for me.” “Why are my kids such a mess?” “I’m so tired, I just don’t have any energy.” “I never get a good night’s sleep.” And I could go on and on. Can you imagine the mess God would be in if He talked like that? God is eternal, never ending, and if He talked like most of us talk, He would be living in an eternal mess. But He isn’t. He’s living in heaven with streets of gold, and EVERYTHING is good. I think we could learn something here.

Now if those people realized what they were saying, and became thermostats, their words might change: “I’m not going to be broke anymore. I CAN pay my bills.” “I HAVE enough money.” “My arthiritis is NOT killing me, I’m killing IT.” And so on. But just becoming a Thermostat is not enough, you have to know what demands to make, or nothing will really change. In order to know what words you must send forth, you must study how God used HIS words, else you won’t get the results you want.

In my particular case, when I was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 1993, I could have spoke like a thermometer and said it like it was, but instead I got into God’s Word and discovered I could overcome cancer by speaking what I wanted instead of what I had. It didn’t just happen overnight, it was and is a learning project. Back then I was always broke, maybe because of saying I was always broke, or maybe just because I was ignorant on how to use my words. But it certainly wasn’t from laziness, because I worked two and three jobs everyday. But no matter how much I made, I just never managed to keep any of it, it was like putting money in a buck with no bottom.

It wasn’t until after I learned how to speak to my body to make it well that I realized that it would work on external stuff as well. I had a car that was always breaking down, and that helped keep me broke. I saw a Mercedes one day and wished I had one. We’ve all done that, right? But my words started being, “I’m going to have a Mercedes.” And before long, I did. In fact, in nine more months I had THREE of them, much to the amazement of my fellow workers. The breakthrough was when I got the first one, and realized that I’d been continually speaking that I’d have a Mercedes. My words had became manifestation, and I hadn’t struggled to make it happen. It seemed I was always at the right place at the right time and it just happened. My words started working FOR me instead of AGAINST me.

If you knew all the things I’ve spoken that I’ve got through the years, you’d be amazed. It all came because I came to the knowledge that God created His world by His words, and created US in His own image, with the power to frame our world by our words. You may blow me off and say, “I tried that, and it didn’t work.” But it DOES work, but you have to stay at it. I’m not talking about saying a thousand times “I have a Mercedes”, but rather to STOP saying stuff to negate what you said previously. We keep shooting down our words that we sent out for good, by following them with destructive words. It takes CONSTANT diligence to not destroy what you’ve created with good words, like “I’m healed by the stripes of Jesus.”, with words like “Well, I THOUGHT I was healed, but the doctor says I’m not.”

If you need finances, stop saying you’re broke. Start saying you always have enough money. Even if you don’t see it today, keep planting the seeds for the harvest you want. Stop planting WEEDS! If you need healing, start speaking God’s words that agree with what you need, and stop speaking like the world speaks. YOU GET WHAT YOU CONTINUALLY SAY! Mind your mouth! It minds what you tell it to say. For the best results, always say what God says in His Word. After all, His words NEVER come back void or fail to do it’s assignment. Learn to speak like HE does, and your world will become MUCH better. Regardless of what’s going on all around you, YOUR words frame YOUR world. Speak carefully!
