RECOGNIZING THE SPIRIT OF ERROR
After attending a ministry conference this past week, we spent a few days ministering to some local people before returning home. We meet some interesting people in our travels. Among those were some people who live off by themselves in a commune. One of them told us we were not ministers of God, because if we were, we would give everything we have away and move to their commune, where they have separated themselves from the world. This man talked about how the believers sold their possessions and gave all to the Apostles and they distributed to every man as he had need, and that if we didn’t do that, we weren’t God’s children. Let’s look in the Book of Acts to see the account of this.
Act 4:32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.
Act 4:33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.
Act 4:34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,
Act 4:35 And laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.
Now, the Bible says this is what happened. But did Jesus direct the Apostles to teach people to do this? Did the Apostles require this of the people, or did they just do it on their own? I can’t find any evidence that the Apostles directed people to do this, nor does Paul’s writings support such a doctrine that I can see.
Sometimes a group of people will take a few verses out of the Bible and build a whole doctrine on it. And that’s how the spirit of error gets foothold in the Body of Christ. That’s why we have so many denominations among Christians. And of course, denominations mean “divisions of “, and we certainly don’t need any more of that, do we? I don’t doubt that there are some whom the Lord calls to sell all their possessions and go into ministry unencumbered by material things. In my particular case, I was running a successful furniture repair business when the Lord called me away from it to go into full time ministry. I enjoyed my work and looked forward to it each day, but I don’t tell people that God requires them to leave their jobs and go preach the Gospel. That’s God’s job to tell them if He wants them to do that, not mine.
This particular man I was speaking of said you have to listen to the counsel of others, that the Bible isn’t the ultimate authority, that it’s all about loving one another, and listening to your conscience. He said many other religions such as Buddhists are closer to God because they do a better job of loving one another and treating each other with respect. Well, he’s right about one thing, the way you recognize God’s children is that they love one another. I’ll admit, many who say they are Christians aren’t very good at loving people. All of us could use some improvement in that area, including me. The divorce rate among Christians is as high or higher than non-Christians, and this should not be. But moving to a commune and wearing a pony-tail and separating yourself from the rest of society is not the answer. And relying on your conscience to lead your right isn’t either. I know, because my conscience was seared, and nothing was wrong to me anymore. I only did what pleased the “Big 3”: me, myself, and I. Nothing I did seemed wrong in my own eyes, but boy, was I deceived. Nope, that’s not the way, either.
He said the law is done away with, yet they have to dress a certain way and wear their hair a certain way. That’s also part of what separates them from the world. It sounds like they just gave up one kind of law so they could adopt another. I said, OK, the Bible says to preach the Gospel to all nations, are you doing that? He said what you’re doing by traveling is wrong, because you aren’t bringing them someplace to be mentored. He said the “true” believers distributed their possessions to those within their commune so there would be no rich or poor among them, and they spend the rest of their lives caring for their brothers and sisters within the commune.
Well, that’s fine, but who’s going to go out and preach the Gospel? Or is it just an “exclusive Gospel” for a “chosen few” living in a commune? That’s the fodder of cults, and he admitted they were a cult. And unfortunately, there are people who are hungry for God who are sucked in by the spirit of error, and are led astray. Not everything they teach is error. No, there’s enough truth to get people interested, otherwise they’d never be able to talk people out of their homes, lands, and possessions.
There are churches and groups out there that will tell you that Jesus is NOT the only way to salvation. They will tell you they are the only ones who have the Truth, and if you aren’t part of their group, you’re lost and going to hell. I was part of one of those churches many years ago. Yep, I was duped. I admit it. That’s why I’m so very careful now to listen to the Holy Spirit, because the spirit of error is very efficient in blinding one’s mind to God’s truth. Some of them will tell you the Holy Spirit speaks to their leaders, and their leaders ONLY, and no one else can truly hear from God except them.
Don’t fall for that garbage. You CAN repent of your sins and be saved by the blood of Jesus. You CAN have the Holy Spirit come live within you, and you CAN be led by God every hour of every day. And if the Lord Jesus doesn’t tell you to give your house away, then don’t do it! Indeed, the spirit of error is out there deceiving people every day, but you don’t have to be one of them! Get your nose in your Bible and LEARN it, and you will not be so easily blown about by every wind of doctrine. There are some slick deceivers out there, so slick that once you’ve been had, you don’t even know it. That’s why it’s called “deceived”.
There’s no NEW TRUTH out there. The Holy Bible has all the truth, and there are no more pages being written into it. However, there are people saying they have new truth which has never been revealed before. You’d do well to run from them, not walk. The Holy Spirit will lead you into all truth, as you seek after Him.
There is true danger in listening to those who say the Bible is not the ultimate authority. If you listen to their doctrines long enough, it will appear to be truth to you, and one error leads to another, until one day you wake up in the ditch and wonder how you ever got there. If something you’re being told doesn’t ring true in your spirit, then it probably isn’t. God will give you the Holy Spirit to keep you from the spirit of error, if you will allow Jesus to be your Lord and Savior. Just ask Him. He’s waiting right now….

I am so glad you spoke about the spirit of error. I just had a good christian friend that is trying to serve God, but is getting off into the Jewish Roots movement. They are saying that the name “Jesus” really means the son of Zeus and the book of Matthew was originally written in Hebrew, so the rest of the N.T. has probably been misinterpreted. They are attacking the truth and the Trinity. That cannot be allowed! We are friends with these people, but do not fellowship with them. We tried to talk to them about this, but they will not listen. What is going on with people? How hard is it to just believe the Word? It seems that so many are so bored that they go out and seek something to add to the Word. Oh well, just wanted to let you know you are doing a great job! I devour your posts and look forward to reading more. Good job.

Hello!
Thought this read was interesting.
I was doing a search on the spirit of error as was looking for some confirmation.
I had been involved in an online group which at first appearance had very much the same beliefs as I.
However I began to get warning flags which I at first tried to ignore.
I was enjoying the fellowship as well as having an outlet to exercise my gifts and minister to others. (no churches in my area where one can have such freedom)
I began to see a division in this online group. Only the two leaders were being allowed to do dream interpretations and they had classes to take on the like.
But I was told not to follow methods but to only follow the leading of the Holy Spirit!
To me methods are like religion. Man made and do not allow room for the Holy Spirit to move.
Makes me so sad and causes me to grieve in my spirit man.
I cannot stay where there is such error for feel it will leak into areas of my own spiritual life.
I am sad!
Thanks for posting this writing.

This was pleasant to hear. There is a lot of error going on, unfortunately it is by church goers. The word has been watered down. I find a lot of people who go to churches but deny the very power of God and they are taught what God is going to give(houses, car, material things), but they don’t give them correction and direction. It’s def. not about being perfect, but our quality of life should speak volumes. Like, my pastor has told us a lot of churches have become social clubs, and gossiping sessions. Now in these last day people have drawn to what sounds good. I find too many people have become super sensitive and unable to submit to the delegated authority God has set for the body of believers. He did state He’d give us men after His own heart and faith comes by hearing the Word of God. A lot of people have fallen into error of thinking God has called them to shepherd God flock. That is a might task to look after the souls of others. It takes more than just preaching behind a pulpit Don’t get me wrong in these last days God has poured His spirit upon all flesh and unfortunately the unwise have used it for selfish gain and not for the Kingdom. Thank our Father for the remnant. It will nice to see the Body at its full capacity of believers willing to go out into the harvest and win soul through deliverance. What a mighty God we serve. To God be the glory.

God gave me a dream in regards to this spirit. It was family member that hit me four times in myarm with her purse. I then began to rebuke demons. ( speaking directly to the demons) and suddenly she ran to the driver side of her car and began to burst out all of the windows. Then a sign flashes in my dream “spirit of error” I deal with people that I know that have been deceived by this spirit. To God be the glory because He is faithful and is showing me what areas to be prayerful.

John 15:19
If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you
John 17:14
I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.
John 17:16
They are not of the world, even as I am not of it
You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than ‘he who is in the world’. (And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to ‘the prince of the power of the air’, of ‘the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience’. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and ‘of the mind’, and were by nature children of wrath)
2 Corinthians 4:4
The ‘god of this age’ has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
Ephesians 2:2
in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of ‘the ruler of the kingdom of the air’, ‘the spirit’ ‘who’ is now at work in those who are disobedient.
Ephesians 6:12
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
They are from the world; therefore they speak as from the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God; he who knows God listens to us; he who is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
This is confusing, in John 12:31
“Now judgment is upon this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.
and in John 14:30
I will not say much more to you, for ‘the prince of this world’ is coming. He has no hold over me, (and he has nothing in Me)
The question is, what exactly is ‘the spirit of error’? the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
But is that organization referred to of the spirit of error or simply just ignorant. There must be a difference.

Blessed day. Just a question. Is it okay to call a new believer, brother pastor? Does it not will cause spirit of error?
Jerry: A brand new believer is just as much a brother in Christ as an old one. In fact, i find a new believer usually has a more loving and purer heart than one having been for longer. If you need healing, find a new believer, their faith is usually very strong.
