MOVED WITH COMPASSION
Have you ever wondered why Jesus healed all the sick who came or were brought to Him? Was He just trying to make a name for himself as some have suggested, or was there another reason? Actually, the answer is real simple, it is written in Mark 1:40-42,
40 And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
41 And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.
42 And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.
Right there in verse 41 is your answer: Jesus was moved with compassion, that is to yearn, to pity, or to feel sympathy for the sick. And He went far beyond feeling pity for them, He HEALED them. When was the last time you felt such pity for a suffering one, that you were willing to take the suffering in their place, so they could be free? That’s EXACTLY what Jesus did. Now I realize that most of you parents would gladly take your child’s sickness for them if you could. But how many of you would take the sickness of someone who is a perfect stranger, who isn’t even related to you, or even likes you, for that matter? That gives a whole new meaning to “moved with compassion”, doesn’t it? It is written in Matthew 8:16-17,
16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.
That takes the word “love” to a whole new level, in my humble opinion. We throw around the word “love” very loosely compared to the “love” the Lord Jesus demonstrated every day of His life. We have much difficulty comprehending the God kind of LOVE. His love not only has pity on the suffering one, but DOES something about it to remove the suffering.
So, now let’s take the next step: being the Bible tells us Jesus was moved with compassion for the sick and hurting back then in those days, and the Bible also says in Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ the same; yesterday, today, and for ever.”, then it is appropriate to say that if you were alive in the time Jesus was doing His earthly ministry, and you were sick and suffering, that if you came to Him, He would have healed you, without exception.
Now, please allow me to build my case. Being He never changes, that means in THIS day and age, He is still the same, MOVED WITH COMPASSION for the sick and suffering. And THAT is good news, for it means you have not missed your chance to be healed. There are many who would tell you that Jesus stopped healing the sick when He returned to heaven, but that is a gross error. You see, Christ Jesus “deputized” His disciples when He commanded them in Matthew 10:8, which says, Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give. He gave them power and authority over demons, over every sickness and every disease.
Luke 10:19-20 explains it a little better:
19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
Now, you need to get this: Healing didn’t stop with the original disciples, either, but rather, this authority and power is handed down to EVERY born-again person, in every age, in every place. You see, Jesus never intended for His ministry to stop, but rather for it to continue through every generation until He returns. Why would he grant you and me the authority and mandate to heal the sick? Well, it’s HIS power to do with as HE pleases! GET THAT! And HE pleases to give it to us to relieve the suffering of the sick ones in OUR time.
As I see it, there are two different kinds of people in the world today: those who are sick and suffering, and those who are commanded and empowered to heal them. Which one are YOU? If you’re sick, you can be healed. And if you’re His disciple, then why aren’t you out there healing the sick?
I’ve talked to those who knew they were called to heal the sick, but wouldn’t accept the assignment because of pride. They are worried that if someone isn’t healed, then that would poorly reflect upon them. NEWS FLASH! YOU aren’t the Healer, you’re merely His AGENT. And if you’re truly His agent, then I guarantee you, that YOU will be moved with compassion, just like Jesus was, because if His Spirit is in you, then you cannot help but be like Him.
And if you’re His agent, and you’re not moved with compassion, then YOU need healing YOURSELF. And guess what? The Healer is present to heal you RIGHT NOW! So, whichever case you find yourself in, there’s a cure! Jesus needs YOU out there doing His work, showing the world HIS love, relieving the suffering of a sick and hurting world. Until Jesus comes, there is no shortage of people you can help. There is no “limit”, you can help all you will. Be like your Lord Jesus: be MOVED WITH COMPASSION!

Nice article. We are ambassadors and our names are written in Heaven.
