If you were being attacked, you would feel much safer if you had a fortress around you, right?  In days of old, people built massive fortresses to protect them and their loved ones.  Some were so large they could encompass an entire community within their walls, and woe to anyone who dared to breach those walls to harm them. But a fortress had one serious drawback: you had to stay there in order to enjoy its protection.  You see, it just wasn’t possible to pick it up and carry it with you, so you were pretty much stuck in there.  What we really need is a mobile fortress….

Now that’s a novel idea, isn’t it?  Only mankind didn’t dream it up first: God designed it from the beginning, and King David told us about it in Psalm 91.  Let’s have a look at God’s master plan here:
Psa 91:1  He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
Think of the secret place of the Most High as a fortress. The Bible tells us if we DWELL and ABIDE there, we will be protected.  Notice “ABIDE”.  That means to take up residence there, not just to drop in and say Hi when trouble comes.  One who dwells and abides there is a citizen, they have the right to be there and live under the protection of the Most High. OK, we know “where” we need to be, but “how” to find it and get in there?  That’s another story altogether. Like any hidden treasure, first you have to find it; after all it’s a “secret place”, right?  THEN once you find it, you have to gain access to it and open it if it’s locked up. You need the key, gotta have the KEY, or else you have a fortress you can’t get into.  What’s the key?

Psa 91:2  I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
You mean the key to getting into the fortress where the treasure is, is our WORDS???  How could it possibly be so simple?  Well, the Lord Jesus explained it to us in Mark 11:23-24, yet somehow we just don’t get it, do we?  It isn’t hard; in fact it’s so simple a child can do it.
Mar 11:23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
Mar 11:24  Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
You see, the key of this whole thing is what you believe in your heart and say with your mouth.  People want to find another way in, using a key of their own choosing, yet GOD designed the ONLY key that gives us entrance into His fortress, and hung it right there in plain sight on the door and gave us explicit instructions on how to use it to get in.  Tell me, how can it be any simpler?

Psa 91:3  Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
I don’t know about you, but that sounds like the place where I want to live my whole life.

Psa 91:4  He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Psa 91:5  Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
Psa 91:6  Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
Psa 91:7  A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Now THAT, my friend is a FORTRESS!!!  Trouble can’t touch you in there.  But what does it cost to live there?  Well, the cost is high, but the Lord Jesus paid the price already.  To pick up YOUR key, just come to the door and follow the instructions on the door.  Jesus is the door.  As you probably know, doors stay where you put them, so you when you need to go through a door, it will always be in the same place. Jesus never changes, He won’t be in one spot one day and another spot on another day. He will always be where you can find Him.

Psa 91:8  Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Here’s you looking out of the fortress window from the inside.

Psa 91:9  Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
Psa 91:10  There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
Psa 91:11  For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
Psa 91:12  They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Psa 91:13  Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
Here’s where it gets good, my friend.  There are no lions and adders (poisonous snakes, vipers) in the fortress.  They are on the OUTSIDE of the fortress.  But you can go OUTSIDE and carry the fortress WITH YOU!!!  Remember me talking about a “Mobile Fortress”?  This is YOU surrounded by the power of God’s Holy Spirit.  How can this be?  See below:

Psa 91:14  Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
Psa 91:15  He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
Psa 91:16  With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

Today, you can get out of the prison the devil has kept you in.  You know when you’ve been there: poverty, sickness, depression, and sadness is all around.  Come to the Secret Place of the Most High and come on in!  The key is on the door with the instructions.  Once you’re inside, you’re safe.  If you take God with you when you go outside, you’re safe.  The devil will try to attack you, for he is outside, just waiting for a chance to devour you.  But Jesus took his teeth and claws away from him.  What’s he gonna do, gum you to death?

In closing, there are instructions engraved on the key, in case you didn’t take time to read them: James 4:7, Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Come to the “Mobile Fortress”  and don’t leave home without it.
