GREATER WORKS
Why is it that many Christians are satisfied with the humdrum, when we could be living in the supernatural, not just once in a while, but every day? God did not redeem us from the lost and unsaved for us to remain the old creature, but He intends us to be a NEW creation in Christ Jesus! He intends for us to be world-changers and overcomers, not “victims” or “losers”.
It is written in 2 Corinthians 5:17; Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. Ok then, if all things are become new, then WE must start living a new life, forsaking the old pitiful and powerless life, to assume our NEW, improved life, right? How exactly do we go about that?
To begin with, we must see ourselves as God sees us. As His children we have been given both rights and responsibilities. Because old things are passed away, we must stop seeing ourselves as we did in our “old” life. Many stay locked in the “old” because they feel they cannot step into the “new”. Simply put, the inability to step into you new identity as a child of God comes from just one thing: UNBELIEF!
If you’re one of those who feel like you are still living the “old” life, you need to stop calling God a liar. God says if we be in Christ, we ARE a new creature, it doesn’t say we MIGHT be a new creature. And if He says so, then we ARE, period. That means if you are in Christ Jesus and you don’t think you are really a new creature, then you don’t believe God, and you are indeed calling Him a liar. Think about that for a moment! You may be convinced you would never call God a liar, but if you don’t believe His Word, then you ARE calling Him a liar. Well, that same attitude permeates every area of your life. If you don’t believe His Word, then you cannot be His disciple, and “greater works” will not be part of your life, because the Greater One will not be in you.
That means even if you pray for a sick person, they will not likely be healed, because you are putting doubt into what you’re praying. First off, get over yourself! YOU ARE NOT THE HEALER, CHRIST JESUS IS. He only wants to use you as a conduit to get His healing virtue into that person. You see, part of the responsibility of being in the family of God, is bringing God’s will into the earth. Remember this part of the LORD’S Prayer: “Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.” He wants to use YOU to accomplish greater things on earth, but the “old” you will hinder Him from doing so..
Now, even though it is God’s will to use you to do greater things on earth, He will not force you to do them. He will equip you with the authority and grace and power to accomplish them, but it is entirely up to YOU to make use of that calling. By the authority granted you as a believer, as a present-day disciple of Christ Jesus, you can do those “GREATER WORKS” that Jesus said His disciples would do. Here: read it for yourself, don’t just take my word for it.
Joh 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Joh 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Joh 14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
Joh 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Joh 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
Joh 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
Joh 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
What’s the qualifier here? According to the words of Jesus, “ He that believeth on me.” That means if you don’t believe, you won’t do any greater works. But why would anyone NOT believe? I mean, really, when was the last time God lied to you? He hasn’t EVER lied, and He isn’t going to start with YOU. Our mind and flesh will always fight against the spirit man, and I don’t care how many years you walk with the LORD, your flesh will never want to believe the Word of God. You take God at His Word with your spirit, not your flesh. Your flesh is not born again; your SPIRIT is. Your flesh is not your friend, because it will try to keep you out of the things of God. You have to tell your flesh to sit down and shut up, if you are ever to accomplish anything for the Kingdom of God. Your flesh will fight you tooth and nail, every day of your life. Don’t deceive yourself into thinking one day your flesh will want to do the will of God, because it won’t. Your spirit man will have to take control of your flesh, else you will never do the “greater works” that Jesus spoke of.
Many people have told me they really want to do those “greater works” that they read about in the Bible, but they still want to obey the lusts of their flesh. Sorry, you can’t have it both ways. It reminds me of a joke I once heard. One guy said “I just want to be married and be happy.” The other guy said “Choose one.” Well, the truth is, you CAN be married AND be happy, but you can’t please God AND please your flesh. It’s your choice, you can either do “greater works” for God by being led by the Holy Spirit, or you can satisfy yourself by being the “old” man. But if you’re really in Christ Jesus, then being the “old” you is impossible. Sorry about that, if you’re in Christ Jesus, then I guess you’ll just have to be satisfied to do “greater works” after all, because that’s the only way you can be when the Holy Spirit is in you! Anything less than “greater works” is less than what you are created for. The GREATER ONE is in you if you are in Christ Jesus. And if He is not in you, then there is no better time than NOW to invite Him in.
