Many people seek money, or status or material possessions, but the Bible tells us there is something more important we should seek, and that is WISDOM.  Even if you have money, without wisdom you won’t keep it long.  There have been people who have won the lottery and have become multi-millionaires overnight, and a couple years later they were bankrupt.  Why?  They had money, but no wisdom how to use it. Let’s see what the Bible has to say about wisdom.

Pro 4:5  Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
Pro 4:6  Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.
Pro 4:7  Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

Why is wisdom so important, and where do you get it?  The Bible tells us the source of all wisdom is God, and He will share it with us if we ask. People look to education to make them wise, but all education does is gives you facts, and you can memorize them, but that doesn’t make you wise.  In fact, there are many educated idiots out there, and we can tell it is so by the way society is becoming.  There are more people with college degrees today than ever before, yet wisdom is on a steep decline.  There has never been a point where so many are doing so much stupid stuff as they are today.  With all the technology available today, we should be able to solve all of mankind’s problems in a week or two, but instead of solving them, we have more problems than ever, because wisdom is lacking.

Education is good and we should make use of it, but without wisdom and understanding, accumulated knowledge is not much help.  Without understanding, you don’t know how to apply knowledge to solve problems. and you can’t learn understanding out of a book.  Understanding and wisdom are available from God to those who ask in faith believing.  Here, read it for yourself in James chapter one:

Jas 1:5  If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
Jas 1:6  But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
Jas 1:7  For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
Jas 1:8  A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

The first step is recognizing the fact you need wisdom.  Some people think they have already arrived, so they don’t need any more.  Not me. I constantly ask God to give me wisdom, for every day we are faced with new challenges.  While I may have wisdom to fix my computer, if the car breaks, another kind of wisdom is needed for that, and still another kind to counsel a brother or sister in need.  There are many kinds of wisdom and God has them all, AND He will be happy to share them with those who diligently seek Him.  But don’t be double minded about it, because that’s where many miss the mark.

You know me, I like to teach about healing, and God is real big on healing, whether it be about physical healing, emotional healing, spiritual healing, or healing relationships, or anything else you have that needs mending.  The Hebrew word SHALOM signifies “Nothing missing, nothing broken”.  And it takes wisdom to get to that place in life; wisdom that only comes from God.  You can think, “Well, God blesses me with everything I need.” That’s well and good, but if you lack wisdom, those blessings will slip through your hands like water out of a bucket with holes in it.

I’ve ministered for hours on end to some people about healing, only to hear them say, “ I HOPE God will heal me, but I’m not sure He will.” Those same people have asked to be shown out of God’s Word where evidence is for their healing, and I’ve diligently shown them.  But after seeing the evidence, they betray their lack of wisdom by saying “I’m not sure”. One thing that gives away one’s ignorance is disbelieving God’s Word.  You can have ten degrees behind your name and still be dumb as a sack of rocks when it comes to dealing with God.  He says if we ask Him for wisdom we will receive it IF we ask in faith, nothing wavering.  It’s not wisdom to think God will change the way He does things to suit your particular leanings.  True wisdom is learning how God chooses to operate, and then aligning with His Word.  And that wisdom is recorded in the Holy Bible, as a precious treasure available for anyone who will take the time to read it.  For example, by wisdom you can eliminate disease from your body, just by taking God at His Word.

It is written in Psalm 103:2-6,
Psa 103:2  Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
Psa 103:3  Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
Psa 103:4  Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
Psa 103:5  Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Psa 103:6  The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.

Verse two reminds us not to forget all His benefits: a wise person pays attention to good counsel.  God wants you to enjoy ALL He has for you, not just a few.  Many churches for example will major on a certain doctrine, and forsaking the other benefits God made available for the Body of Christ, but God says not to forget ALL His benefits.  He forgives ALL your sins if you ask. Do you believe that?  Or are you arguing with God because you’ve been taught otherwise?  He said He heals ALL your diseases.  So, are you healed?  Wisdom agrees with the Word of God and receives healing, but ignorance stands waiting at the door to try to talk you out of it, using “fleshly wisdom” to say, “So-and-so was prayed for and yet they didn’t receive their healing, so that shows God doesn’t heal everyone”. Then your faith in God’s Word wavers and guess what?  God says the person who wavers will NOT receive anything from the LORD!  And furthermore He states that whosoever wavers is unstable in ALL HIS WAYS.

Wisdom reads God’s Word and knows it is true, and from that point it is SETTLED!  That means no looking back when something contrary to God’s Word comes along and tries to confuse you.  The devil has no end of ways to try to get you to doubt God’s Word, and putting symptoms of sickness on you is his most common way to accomplish that.  When symptoms hit, wisdom says, I am healed according to God’s Word, and that is THAT. You see, God cannot lie, and wisdom knows that.  If you know nothing else, know God cannot lie, and the rest will fall in line. When you read God’s Word, take time to really read it and ask God to give you understanding.  He is most willing to make you wise so that you will not be deceived by ANYONE; the devil, or by your best friends, or your church, or even me. Wisdom is the principal thing.  With all your getting, get wisdom, and you’ll never regret it.  You’ll make God smile and say, Now that’s MY child!
