DO NOT WORRY
We are told by the Lord Jesus not to have worry or anxiety about things. Yeah, I know, it’s easy to say, but hard to do, right? Well, it doesn’t HAVE to be. I think of it like this; if God be for me, who can be against me? And if God be FOR me, WHO CARES who’s against me? So why worry, when God has me covered? And that would be a good attitude for YOU to have, as well. It is written in Matthew 6:24-34,
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Please allow me to make a comment about this verse before continuing: it’s man’s nature to worry, and we really seem to enjoy worrying; we must, because we do it so much. And yet God says NOT to worry. Well, you can’t obey man and worry, and God by not worrying at the same time. You must make up your mind whom you will trust, either your own thoughts, or God’s Word. The Lord Jesus is really trying to help us here.
25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
To some, worry is a badge of honor. If you’re not worried about something, then you’re not being a responsible adult. Well, I came from a long line of worriers, my Mom worried about EVERYTHING, and if she didn’t have anything to worry about, she even worried about THAT! And of course, with such a good teacher, it rubbed off on me as well. Right up until the day I got saved, I was an accomplished worrier.
But the day I got saved, I quit worrying about stuff. I had committed my life unto God through Christ Jesus, and knowing He had created the whole universe all by Himself without any worry or anyone else’s help, I determined that He was well able to take care of what I had committed to Him. I was no longer my own caretaker, as He is now my LORD, so taking care of myself is no longer my job. It’s HIS!
Some people have told me that I have an overly simplistic view of God. I don’t think so. What it says in His Word, He backs up. I didn’t make the promises, HE DID! So it’s HIS responsibility to fulfill them. His Word tells me all I’m responsible for is to seek His Kingdom, and His righteousness FIRST, and He will add whatsoever I need. That sure sounds like a sweet deal to me! And so when His Word says I’m healed by the stripes of Jesus, I believe Him, and I’ve been enjoying it for the past 27 years that I’ve been saved. I’ve given up my crown of being a world-class worrier, and don’t miss it a bit. I don’t worry about ANYTHING! Now you may think that’s irresponsible, but I’m not about to try to do God’s job for Him. And God isn’t worried about ANYTHING!
You don’t see birds pacing back and forth on a telephone line, worrying about where they’re going to get a bug or worm, saying, “What am I going to EAT?” God feeds them, and if He feeds THEM, He will feed YOU and ME. Again, that’s HIS job. Our job is to seek Him with our whole heart.
It is written in Philippians 4:6-8 says,
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
That’s another passage I love to read. Every time the devil tries to get me to worry about something, these verses come to mind. My, how we need the peace of God right now! Almost everything you hear on the news is bad. And what isn’t bad is TERRIBLE! People rioting and tearing up towns, burning buildings, attacking stores and looting them, hurting and killing people.
What’s a person to do? Well, if you listen to God’s Word, you won’t worry about it! Isn’t that irresponsible? That depends if you’re a child of God or not. If you’re not, I’d say you have a lot to worry about, because things aren’t pretty out there anymore. But if you’re God’s child, He has a plan for you, and if you’ll just get out of the way, and let His peace lead you, it will turn out good for you. Is it still possible for you to die or be killed? Sure, but so what? This earthly life isn’t your final goal.
Remember where Jesus says in Matthew 6:33, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” It’s all about the Kingdom of God, NOT THIS LIFE. Your life is hidden in God if you’re His child. And if you’re NOT His child, there’s no better time than RIGHT NOW to take care of that. Nobody ever paid a bill by worrying about it. Nobody ever found a job or a place to live by worrying about it. Worry is fear, and fear is torment, and you don’t need it. There is a BETTER way to live! Make Christ Jesus of Nazareth, Y’shua Messiah, YOUR LORD and Savior, and kiss all your worries good-bye. I guarantee, you’ll never miss them! DO NOT WORRY!
