BLESS THE LORD, O MY SOUL

I’d like to show you how prayer, praise, and blessings are all connected. We all like blessings, right? Let’s take time to explore the very nature of God. Most of us have heard the fire and brimstone sermons about the judgment of God, right? Unfortunately, I heard about that side of God many years before I heard about His loving nature. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that nobody wants to pray to an angry God who they think is out to make everyone a crispy critter. Needless to say, that wouldn’t make anyone want to praise Him, either, unless it was simply out of fear of being sent to hell. And yet, that is the god I was first introduced to.

RETURN TO SENDER

Are you one of those who says, “I can’t understand why God doesn’t answer my prayers”? Well, if you are, this is likely the reason why. If you put a letter in the mail with no stamp on it, the Post Office will stamp on it “Return To Sender”. Many business envelopes you get in the mail have a return envelope. Some say they’re postage paid, but most say, “Affix stamp here, the Post Office will not deliver mail without proper postage.” Yeah, yeah, I know, God is not the Post Office. ENTER INTO HIS GATES WITH THANKSGIVING

It is written in Psalm 100:4-5,  Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. Continue Reading »

IN ALL THINGS GIVE THANKS

Ever have one of those days that just doesn’t go the way you planned?  Today I was on my way to Oklahoma to a ministry conference, and my vehicle started vibrating badly like the driveshaft was out of balance.  It seemed like at any moment it might come out of there and pass me.  So my trip was interrupted to spend the night at a hotel out of town.  Hopefully it will be a simple and inexpensive repair, and I’ll be back on my way tomorrow.  Funny thing, most of the day a song has been going through my mind, “And in all things give Him thanks…..” Yeah, I guess that means even when your vehicle breaks.  Don’t get me wrong: I’m not thankful FOR the trouble, but I’m thankful IN the trouble.  Maybe it’s just a test.  Maybe it’s the devil trying to aggravate me, but I’m going to aggravate him back by praising God.  And if it isn’t the devil behind it, that’s ok, I’m going to praise God anyway, because it’s the right thing to do. MISERY LOVES COMPANY

When was the last time you heard one of your friends or family having a pity party? And of course, you were invited, and if you attended, how did you feel later? Did it lift up your mood and spring you forth into a joyful mood?  No?  You say it pretty much sucked the life out of your day?   Well, when was the last time you heard God having a pity party? FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD

One of the most famous verses in the Bible is John 3:16, which says, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son; that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. Do you believe that?  If so, what are you doing about it? Continue Reading »
