There’s an old saying; if you have two dogs, and you only feed one of them, which one will be stronger?  The answer is, the one you feed.  Well, you as a person are a three-part being: spirit, soul, and body.  You ARE a spirit, and that spirit lives in a physical body, and your soul is your mind, will, and emotions.  Depending which one of those parts, spirit or body gets fed best, will determine what goes on with your soul.

It’s generally easy to look at someone and determine if they spend more time feeding their body rather than their spirit.  There are those who have decided the welfare of their spirit is far more important than their body, and so they make sure their spirit man is well fed with the Word of God.  And there are those whose spirit man seems to live just to satisfy their physical body.

The spirit part of man is eternal according to the Word of God, whereas the physical part is temporary.  It would stand to reason that a person would want to take excellent care of their spirit, and yet the pull of the flesh is so strong, that many spend their whole life in this physical life feeding the desires of the physical man.  Why do we have jobs?  In order to satisfy the desires of the flesh.  Actually, the term “desires” of the flesh is incorrect.  It’s actually more to satisfy the DEMANDS the flesh makes upon our spirit and soul.  Proverbs 16:25-26 explains it like this:

25  There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

26  He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.

That’s why people work two or more jobs; because their flesh demands to be satisfied.  And the whole world operates that way.  Maybe you remember when microwave ovens were first on the market, they said a microwave oven would give you more time to do other things you wanted to do. And every other “convenience” thing you buy “saved you time” to do other things.  Never mind the fact that it took several hours a week longer to pay for all that time you’re saving to make your flesh happy.  In the meantime, who’s using that “extra time” to feed their spirit man?

More than likely, nobody is, because the more you cave in to the demands of the flesh, the more demands it will make upon you, until you’re spending ALL your time trying to make your flesh happy.  Let me help you here: your flesh will NEVER be satisfied.  King Solomon figured that one out all by himself.  He allowed himself EVERY fleshly pleasure, and in the end said it was all vanity.  And that vanity of the flesh ended up pulling him away from God, the very source of all his blessings in the first place.

Why not take careful inventory of your life right now and save yourself a lot of problems in the future?  Which dog are you feeding the most?  As it is said, the one you feed the most will be the strongest.  If you’re making the feeding your spirit man the Word of God the top priority of your life, it will pay off everlasting dividends when this physical life is over. And if you aren’t?  Well, I think you know the answer to that. Amen?
