There is an account in Mark chapter five about Jairus, who was a ruler in the Synagogue, whose daughter was at the point of death, and he asked Jesus to come heal her.  Now, the Jews were against what Jesus taught, so Jairus had to put his head on the chopping block to go to Jesus.  But Jairus was desperate, and many of you are desperate to receive healing.  But how desperate are you?  Enough to do what Jesus himself did?
Mar 5:22  And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,
Mar 5:23  And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.
Mar 5:24  And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.
Mar 5:25  And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
Mar 5:26  And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,
Mar 5:27  When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
Mar 5:28  For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
Mar 5:29  And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
Mar 5:30  And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?
Mar 5:31  And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
Mar 5:32  And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.
Mar 5:33  But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
Mar 5:34  And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
Mar 5:35  While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?
Mar 5:36  As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
Mar 5:37  And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.
Mar 5:38  And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.
Mar 5:39  And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.
Mar 5:40  And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.
Mar 5:41  And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
Mar 5:42  And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.

Now there are actually TWO stories here, one about Jairus, and the other about the woman with the issue of blood, and they are connected, and here’s why:

First off, many doubt if it’s God’s will to heal, or that it isn’t always God’s will to heal, but I find that God’s will is often impeded by OUR will, seeing that God gives man free will to think, speak and choose as he or she wills, and God generally does not interfere with our will.  Jesus healed EVERY sick, possessed, or diseased person who came to Him or was brought to Him without exception.  Never once did he refuse to heal, and He said He only did His Father’s will, and that He and His Father are One.  Ok?  Are you with me so far?  That says it is always GOD’S will to heal, BUT, we must take into account MAN’S will.

To explain that, I have to go clear back to the Garden of Eden, where God told Adam and Eve not to eat of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.  That was GOD’S will.  But Eve let the serpent beguile her and she ate of the tree, and gave of it to Adam.  Their choice to eat of that tree was THEIR will, and so GOD’S will was rejected, and He didn’t get His way, even though He is Almighty and COULD have stopped them, He didn’t violate their will.  Still with me?

Now, back to Jairus, he exercised his own will to seek Jesus for the healing of his daughter, and JESUS WENT WITH HIM, showing it was His will to heal her.  About this time the woman with the issue of blood enters the story.  She is a social outcast who is not permitted to be in public due to her issue of blood, and the penalty for that is DEATH.  If she went out, she was required to cry “UNCLEAN!  UNCLEAN!” so others would not be ceremoniously made unclean by her touching them.

The Jews were so strict about that, they attached the death penalty to it.  And this woman had spent all her living on doctors, and was nothing better, but only grew worse.  But this woman had heard of Jesus, and said if she was able to touch the hem of His garment, she would be healed, so at the risk of her life, she pushed her way through that crowd and touched his garment.  Jesus turned around and said “Who touched my clothes?”, for He knew a demand had just been made upon His healing power that He himself had not made.  This woman actually TOOK her healing from Jesus, and didn’t even ask for it, how?  BY HER OWN WORDS!  And Jesus told her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.  Whose faith??  HER FAITH!  The unbelieving crowd couldn’t stop her, the law couldn’t stop her, and even God Himself WOULDN’T stop her!  But there’s another side to the coin, as we will soon see.

Now, getting back to Jairus, he had made a statement of faith with his actions to go to Jesus, and his words, I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live. So far so good; that is until those came from his house and said not to trouble Jesus any further, his daughter is dead.  Jesus knew Jairus was about to CANCEL his faith words, and told him, Be not afraid, only believe.  You see, that’s where most everyone misses it.  Fear is not from God, it’s from Satan.  Satan reinforces the doctor’s report of bad news, your friends and family reinforce it too.  Hope is lost, and faith goes out the window and is gone like last month’s paycheck.  Jesus had to keep Jairus’ focus on healing, not death.  We can well imagine the despair Jairus felt when they said his daughter was dead.  But Jesus told Jairus to do that which ran absolutely contrary to “popular belief” or everyone’s religion.

Fast forward a bit more, Jesus and the crowd got to Jairus’ home, and Jesus said, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn. And they will laugh YOU to scorn when you insist on standing on the Word of God, believe me, I know because people often laugh ME to scorn when I believe and speak contrary to what they see, hear, taste, touch, smell or feel.  But look what Jesus, the Son of God, had to do in the presence of the unbelievers: But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying. Yes, you read that right, Jesus put the unbelievers OUT!!  And what happened?  Jesus raised her from the dead.  Even Jesus himself can do nothing great in the presence of unbelievers.

Mar 5:42  And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.

Why were they astonished?  They didn’t believe Jesus could or would raise her from the dead.  And that’s why Jesus put them out.  Folks, unbelief will stop the work of God, whether you believe that or not is your decision, but I have seen it too many times firsthand.

Here, look at this:
Mar 6:4  But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.
Mar 6:5  And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.

It doesn’t say He WOULDN’T, but rather He COULDN’T.  Here Jesus, the very Son of God was stopped cold in His tracks by unbelievers, just like me or any other believer is. Sadly, I find it necessary at times to put people out when I’m ministering to the sick, and I don’t want to offend anyone, but I want to see people healed, and God wants people to be healed. If Jesus had to put the unbelievers out in order to get results, what makes you think you or I or any other believer won’t have to do the same thing? Think about that for a while.  Put your religious thinking in the trash, and do what Jesus did, and you’ll start seeing your prayers answered.  Put the unbelievers OUT!
