Sometimes it’s hard to make a decision, especially if it’s an important one. One thing I hear often about that is “IF I HAD A CHOICE…”. Well, why would you think you DON’T have a choice in any decision you make?

Most often decisions are made based on convenience, some are made from selfishness, and some are snap decisions with no regard for later. But there is another type: and that is what does the Word of God say?

Almost every decision based on selfishness or convenience or in a hurry, will come back and bite you in the butt at some point. The only decisions that are solidly good every time are those based upon God’s Word. It is written in Proverbs many times about obtaining wisdom. In Proverbs 2:1-7 it is written,
1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;
3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; note
4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

I would recommend reading that whole Proverb, but this will give you the general idea. When you ask God for wisdom, He will surely give it to you. It is written in James 1:5-8,
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Wisdom from God will always put you in the right place at the right time with the right decision. So to say, “If I had a choice…” would be a fool’s words, for we DO have a choice, whether to seek and obey God, or NOT. Let’s say you’re pretty bright and you make sound decisions on the whole, but there’s always the time the devil will sneak one in on you, no matter how smart you are. But if you are plugged into the Holy Spirit, and have access 24/7 to the wisdom of God, you’re not going to make wrong decisions.

That isn’t to say every thing the LORD tells you to do will be easy, or convenient, or make sense to your intellect, but remember, God’s ways are higher than your ways, and He’s been around just a bit longer than YOU have. So that means the well of wisdom that God has available to draw from is somewhat deeper than the well of wisdom YOU have to draw from in the natural.

However, you can access His wisdom through the Holy Spirit. Like the Proverb says, when we seek knowledge and understanding as hidden treasure, we will FIND the knowledge of God and He will give us wisdom. That means you never have to be blindsided by the devil’s lies and tricks. Wouldn’t it be nice to never have to worry if you made the right decision? It’s a matter of choice on your part. Choose to seek God with all you have in you, because He doesn’t want you to be made to look like an idiot by the devil. God LOVES to see His children victorious in EVERY situation. He didn’t create you to be defeated. He created you to be an Overcomer, every time. Indeed, you DO have a choice! Team up with God right now and never make a bad decision again.
