One thing I often find when ministering to people, is that they are not fully settled in what the Word of God says. They think maybe they might be settled, because they’re trying to believe. And so they’re struggling every day because the devil is working overtime to convince them that God did not really mean what He said in His Word. It is written in Psalm 119:89-94

89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.
90 Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.
91 They continue this day according to thine ordinances: for all are thy servants.
92 Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction.
93 I will never forget thy precepts: for with them thou hast quickened me.
94 I am thine, save me; for I have sought thy precepts.

The best explanation why we fail to obtain the promises of God is written in James 1:2-8,
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

You see, whatever is written in God’s Word is immoveable, it’s not going anywhere, though the earth perish and we all perish with it, God’s Word endures forever. It is to our profit to literally take God at His Word, and yet only a few do so. And when they do, they are usually ridiculed by everyone around them, because what seems to be wisdom to the world, is foolishness to God, and what is wisdom to God is foolishness to the world.

It’s no wonder that people have so much trouble receiving healing from the Word of God. After all, in the world’s way of thinking, trusting God to heal us violates “common sense” because we have doctors and hospitals and medicine to heal us, and most people put their trust in them, instead of God. Now I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with going to the doctor, or taking medicine, but if modern medicine can’t even cure and prevent a common cold, or cure and prevent cancer, why should I trust it over God?

God says His Word is forever settled in heaven. His Word created the entire universe and everything in it, including us. He didn’t ask for any help from any of us during or after the creation. When God created Adam and Eve, He didn’t consult with a doctor to find out how to keep them healthy. In fact, there WERE no doctors. His faithfulness is unto ALL generations, even THIS one, and it abides to all those generations yet to come. But how many will believe His Word? How many will live in His blessing? Sadly, not many, because we choose to believe whatever is the latest fad, rather than the Creator, who cannot lie or deceive.

It was Satan who deceived Eve into doubting the Word of God in the first place, and we’ve been doing it ever since. And we can’t blame Satan for it, we do a pretty good job of deceiving ourselves. Just look at what’s going on in the world today, mass confusion, calling good and acceptable what God says is an abomination to Him, and calling evil what God has said is right and good. It’s no wonder people have trouble receiving healing; they don’t know who or what to believe? It’s been said this generation doesn’t even know what bathroom to use, and that’s sad!

There has never been a time that mankind has fully followed the Word of God, but it’s coming, and how I wish it was already here! How can we remain in confusion and unbelief and life a joyful and happy life apart from God’s Word? James rightly said, that when we fall into different trials, we go straight into unbelief mode, instead of facing the trial head-on and saying, “The LORD says THIS about the situation, and that’s just the way it is, and I will not be moved!” Eve could have said that to Satan in the Garden of Eden, and avoided all kinds of heartaches, but no, she listened to his lies, and we’re paying for that yet today with sin, sickness and death all around us, with wars, poverty, desolations, pestilence, and disaster which never end. All from Adam and Eve not being settled in what God said.

We all see what happened to the world because Adam and Eve were not settled in God’s Word, yet in our stupidity, we keep doing the same thing: we know what God has said in His Word, yet we doubt and disobey, thinking we will get a good result from doing what brought disaster to our forefathers. When will we ever learn? Perhaps never.

Now, God freely offers you His wisdom for the asking. Folks, it doesn’t get any better than that! Imagine being able to know what to do in any situation, or have whatsoever you need in any situation. God says ASK in faith, nothing wavering, and it will be given you. He WANTS you to be wise! He WANTS you to have everything you need. But if you doubt His Words, you will do without. And that’s a promise, too. If you’re being tossed about by doubts, like a ship on the sea without a rudder, you’re in a mess. You can pray and ask God to fix that mess day in and day out until you’re blue in the face, but until you BELIEVE He will, nothing will change. Once you are settled and believing His Word, things will change and get better. It may not be overnight, but it could be. After all, you didn’t get in your mess instantly, it came from years of doubt and unbelief, and acting on those doubts.

I often get prayer requests from people who are overweight, wanting to be slim overnight, but it didn’t go ON overnight, did it? Here a little, there a little, and that’s the same way doubt in God’s Word destroys people. Most people don’t wake up one morning deciding to doubt God’s Word, it builds over time, until nothing is going right for them. But the moment you decide to doubt God no more, no matter what it looks like, no matter what it feels like, that’s the moment change begins, and builds and starts putting your life in order like it should be. It begins with YOU giving doubt and unbelief the boot. There is no “trying to believe”. You either DO or you DON’T. Unlike modern lighting with dimmer switches, faith is still simple, ON or OFF.

So today, if life is not taking you where you want to go, turn fully unto God. Not partway, or half-heartedly, but all the way. You’ll be amazed how things will start improving, and there’s no end of blessings in God’s Word. You’ll go from blessing to blessing to blessing! Are you settled yet? What are you waiting for?
