The Bible tells us to seek wisdom, yet most of the world seeks possessions and money, not realizing that if  you have wisdom first, possessions and money come easily.  God’s Word, if we will USE it, will teach us wisdom.  He is the source of ALL wisdom, and He is not stingy with it, but rather, He wants us to listen to His instructions so we will become wise and be blessed and prosper.  But for the most part, people choose their own path, and in vain struggle their whole lives trying to gain on their own what God is trying to freely lead them to.

It is written in Proverbs 24:1-5,
Be not thou envious against evil men,  Neither desire to be with them.  For their heart studieth destruction,  And their lips talk of mischief. Through wisdom is an house builded; And by understanding it is established: And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches. A wise man is strong; Yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.

It’s human nature to want to be well, have everything you need, a nice place to dwell, to be free and enjoy life.  Where do you think that came from?  God put it in us, and God wants to show us how to have all that.  In Matthew 6:24-33, the Lord Jesus told us:
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Proverbs tells us to attend to wisdom, to get wisdom, and the Lord Jesus gave us wisdom in the above verses.  Do you want to build your house? Start with wisdom, not concrete and wood.  By understanding, you know how to do things in an orderly fashion.  By knowledge you will fill it with good treasure.  People put the cart before the horse, in that they seek after money and stature FIRST, instead of seeking God and His righteousness first.  You will notice in what the Lord Jesus said, that God KNOWS the things we need, and He is thoughtful even for the grass and birds.  He knows we seek after what we need, but tells us FIRST to seek after Him, and all these things we seek shall be added unto us.  Notice He did not say they would be taken AWAY from us.

Why is it that people think if you seek after God first, you will end up sick, broke, and in a mess?  The Word tells us a wise man is STRONG, and INCREASES STRENGTH.  But the devil tries to get you to listen to him instead, and do it your own way and ignore God’s instruction.   Of course, we know what happened to Adam and Eve because of listening to the devil, are we so stupid as to think we can do any better when WE listen to the devil?

People want to be well, so instead of running to the Word of God when they’re sick, they run to the doctor, and get all kinds of surgery or pills or procedures that not only cost them a bunch of money, but it starts a never ending cycle that cannot easily be broken free of.  Does God have a better idea for staying healthy?  Well, duh…..
He created our bodies, don’t you think He knows best how to keep us well?  He instructed us in His Word in Psalm 103:1-5,
Bless the Lord, O my soul: And all that is within me, bless his holy name.  Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; Who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; Who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; So that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Do you see the part where God tells us to take matters into our own hands and depend on someone else for our health, or for delivery from destruction? No, neither do I.  It isn’t there, for He is telling us to seek HIM first.  If He decides to refer us to a doctor or someone else to take care of our problems, He will surely tell us.  But don’t hold your breath waiting for Him to send us elsewhere to have our problems solved, because He likely won’t.  GOD HIMSELF TAKES RESPONSIBILITY FOR US AND OUR WELFARE.  But, as part of His design, we are given “free will”, which means if we choose to ignore wisdom and His instructions, we are free to do so, but I say, “good luck with that”.  God doesn’t depend on good luck to cure us.  He depends on good wisdom, which by the way, He is the source of.  He has the cure for EVERY disease, and has the solution for EVERY problem.  But are we ready to listen?

Life would be so much simpler for us if when we are sick, God would just heal us.  But He defers to OUR WILL.  “Let me see here, do I run to the doctor, or to God?  Well, I can’t see God, but I CAN see the doctor, so I’ll go to the doctor.”   Wisdom cries to us, SEEK GOD, but are we listening?

When we have problems, we tend to call our friends and ask them what to do, and whichever solution sounds the most like what we wanted to do in the first place, that we do.  Wisdom says, SEEK GOD.  Aw, but we want to do things OUR way, and so we do. Tell me, how did it work out for you the last time you did that?  Why not seek God’s counsel, wait upon Him until you get the answer, then do what He says?  In the long run you will save yourself a lot of time and money, for you won’t have to try several “solutions” until you find the right one.  Don’t know how to seek God?  Don’t you think it’s time you LEARNED?  Are you enjoying solving all of life’s problems on your own?  Are you stressed out enough yet?  When enough becomes “enough”, you will finally cry out to God, and then you will find He had the answer all along.

God doesn’t want you stressed out; He wants you to have peace.  In fact, it says in Isaiah 26:3, Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

So there you have it:  if you seek God FIRST, put your trust in HIM, and know He has your back, you will dwell in perfect peace.  Though the world is in turmoil all around you, your life will be an oasis in the middle of the desert, a place of safety in the storm, a fortress, a stronghold where you are untouchable from the evil one.  Will the devil try to get you anyway?  Sure he will, but so what?  If God be for you, WHO CAN BE AGAINST YOU?  WHO CARES WHO’S AGAINST YOU?  Get strong: get the wisdom that only comes from the Word of God, and you will INCREASE in strength daily.  Life can be so sweet when you’re trusting God!  Stop wasting time on life’s “wannabes” : go for the real thing.  Seek God FIRST.  And when the devil comes to kick your door down, you will smile when you see the the look on his face when he sees who is backing YOU up!  Why? Because you had the wisdom to put God first in your life.

Why not pray this simple prayer right now and get your life on the right track.

Father God in heaven, I come to You in the name of Christ Jesus of Nazareth, Y’shua Messiah.  I repent of my sins. Please forgive my sins and be my Lord and Savior.  Give me the ability to clearly hear Your voice in every situation, no matter what I am facing, and lead me in Your ways of blessing and wisdom.  It is my desire to follow You from this day forward as You give me the grace to do so. I ask these things in the name of Christ Jesus of Nazareth, Y’shua Messiah. Amen.
