Every day we are faced with thousands of decisions to make, some are trivial, such as, should I have Corn Flakes for breakfast, or Cheerios.  Others are much more important, such as, should I stay at this job, or go find another?  We know that if you are a child of God, He wants to help us make wise choices so we can live peaceable lives and be blessed.  But you know man’s heart; people want to do what they want to do, when they want to do it.  And that often leads to some very bad consequences. The Bible says in James 1:5-8,

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

6  But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

7  For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

8  A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

So here we see, God is not trying to hide wisdom from mankind, that all we have to do is ASK Him for wisdom, and he will FREELY in abundance give it to us, and He won’t scold us for asking.  But there’s a catch: let him ask in faith, without doubting.  How many of us ask God for things, but doubt immediately comes in saying to us, “Are you SURE that God wants you to have that?  What if it isn’t His will for you to have it, or what if it’s not now, what if, what if?”

We’ve all been there if we’re honest enough to admit it.  I know I have, anyway.  But true wisdom is to study God’s Word, because it tells you what is His will, and what isn’t.  So what is wisdom? Don’t ask for things that are not His will.  Ask for things that ARE His will.  And that isn’t hidden from us at all.  But asking with doubt in your heart guarantees you will receive NOTHING from God, because He cannot work with a double minded person.  What is double minded?  Well, I think it may be this, I’m not sure (pun intended).

For the sake of simplicity, I’ll pick on healing, because that seems to be a HUGE area of doubt for some of God’s people.  I don’t know why it should be, because Christ Jesus made it abundantly clear it is His Father’s will to heal.  And yet, people let doubt rob them of their healing.  Yeah, that’s right, doubt is a thief.

Have you ever met someone who just cannot seem to make a decision?  I was at fast food joint a couple days ago, and this person couldn’t make up their mind what they wanted.  I began to wonder if they’d decide before closing time.  It wasn’t hard to figure out, that person is unstable in ALL their ways, because they’re double minded.  Should I get the burger? What do I want on it? Do I want fries with that?  It should be a ten second decision, not twenty minutes.  Fortunately, another register opened and I placed my order, got my food and ate it, and that person who couldn’t make up their mind was still standing there trying to decide when I left.  It is safe to assume that person wasn’t a Christian, because even the simplest decision was a non-starter for them.  Double minded?  More like 50 or 60 minded.  God could fix that……

Some people seem to have a good degree of natural wisdom.  Then, there are politicians…  Why should it take so long for them to do the people’s business?  Lack of wisdom, for starters.  Self will, greed, corruption and hunger for power also enter into that.  And all that stuff is common to man, and the devil uses it to keep us out of God’s blessings.  Some people think God is in control of everything, down to what color shirt you put on today.  Well, let me give you a clue: God gave us free will to think for ourselves, and the Bible clearly reveals to us how things are going to end, because God knowing the end from the beginning, tells us how all the stupid and evil decisions mankind makes is going to play out.  And it will be exactly as God said, you can stake your soul on it.  You see, God lives outside of time.  He’s already been there in the future.

So….here you are in your daily life, trying to do the best you can, hoping to make good choices so you can have a pleasing life.  Where do you start?  Is it laying in bed planning tomorrow and losing sleep wondering about the future?  No, true wisdom is this: knowing ALL of mankind is lost because of sin and death.  And there isn’t a cure that we can come up with on our own.  We need some help.  And that help is GOD!  He care for us much more than we can imagine.  So much, He provided not only the cure for sin and death, but for our wisdom problem, or rather, our lack thereof.  All we have to do is ask.  He will give us life for death, wisdom for stupidity, love and compassion for our hardness of heart.  All for free to us.

Keep in mind, it wasn’t free for HIM, though.  Everything has a cost, nothing is free, somebody has to pay.  We have nothing to pay with, except our very life.  But if we pay with our life, then life ends and there’s no going forward.  God, in His wisdom, saw and has compassion upon this mess we make for ourselves daily.  Knowing from eternity we would do this stuff, at first gave us laws and commandments to live by, which if we did them, would help us.  But we wouldn’t live by them, so He, in the earthly and fleshly form of Christ Jesus came in person to fix it.  HE paid the price for our sins and rebellion.  HE provided the cure for our sicknesses and diseases.  HE offers His Holy Spirit to all who will come to Him and be His child.  HE offers us wisdom to make all the right choices in this life.

Using wisdom seems to be the right choice.  Wisdom is choosing Christ Jesus as your LORD and SAVIOR.  Making that choice will be the wisest of any choice you will ever make.  If you already know Him as your LORD and SAVIOR, good!  Now use some more of that wisdom and tell someone else how to be saved.  It isn’t just about YOU, you know.  God has a much bigger plan, and He wants you to be a part of it.  Don’t worry about “breaking the bank” if too many people ask God for wisdom; He is the source of ALL wisdom, and there’s more than enough to go around!  So get YOURS, and tell everyone you know how to get theirs!  Don’t be greedy: SHARE THE GOOD NEWS!  That’s using wisdom!
