Most of you reading this know at least something about computers.  Just like a vehicle, they require maintenance on a regular basis if they are to work at their peak capabilities.  There are security updates available on a daily basis to keep viruses and malware from taking over and destroying your files, as well as updating of software to make your computer work better.  Of course, you can accept or reject those updates according to your will.  If you choose to reject the updates, you risk the latest malware attack, and you’re stuck in the same-old, same-old performance wise that you’ve always had.  If you choose the updates, you are better protected against risk, plus your computer performance will be enhanced.  I told you all that to ask you, do you regularly update your spirit?
   Supposed you learned years ago that if you ask the Lord Jesus to save you, He will.  And you were happy knowing you are saved, but you never went any farther seeking Jesus.  Will you miss out on anything?  You bet!  There is an ever-increasing blessing to be had by continually seeking the LORD.  But, if you don’t seek, you won’t find.  Now the Lord Jesus said in Matthew 7:7-11,
Mat 7:7  Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
Mat 7:8  For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Mat 7:9  Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
Mat 7:10  Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
Mat 7:11  If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
    Like I said, if you “download salvation” and don’t continue with the regular “updates”, you miss out on all God wants you to have.  Some are satisfied just knowing they are saved, but why pass up on all the “updates”?  Why miss out on all God’s “benefits”?  And most importantly, you don’t want to miss out on the “security updates”.  What do I mean “security updates”?  Well, they are those that protect against viruses, worms, Trojan horses, and other malware.
    What is a “security threat” in the spirit realm?  Glad you asked!  Those are the voices of the devil who attacks you in your mind, especially after he has just attacked you with guilt, condemnation, doubt, and unbelief, telling you God doesn’t love you, and that you don’t deserve His love.  Or, maybe it’s an attack against your body and you, having not received the “updates”, the knowledge the Lord Jesus PAID IN FULL FOR ALL YOUR SICKNESSES AND DISEASES AS WELL AS YOUR SINS, you get attacked by the devil, and before you know it, you’re flat on your back because without the working knowledge God provided you with “antivirus protection”, you can’t lay claim to it and make it work.
 And of course, when you can’t make your faith work, the devil most assuredly tells you, See, that faith stuff doesn’t work!  And in truth, if you don’t believe, IT WON’T WORK FOR YOU.  The Lord Jesus said in John 8:31-32
Joh 8:31  Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
Joh 8:32  And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
   Note the word “continue”; that’s an ongoing action, getting connected with Him and staying connected, updating and abiding in your relationship with Him.  In doing so you’ll keep your “spiritual security” strong and when attacks come, and they always DO come, you will have your “antivirus protection” online and working.  The devil always comes trying to spread his junk into your mind and spirit, trying to get you to speak against God’s Word.  He will use circumstances against you, perhaps getting you angry or jealous against someone, or putting depressing thoughts into your mind, even to the point of trying to get you to harm yourself or others.  He will discourage, intimidate, frighten, harass and threaten you continually.  He may use doctor reports to try to get you to disbelieve that “by the stripes of Jesus ye are healed”.  And if you aren’t staying plugged into Jesus, your mind will go places you don’t want it to go.
    Are you seeing the benefits of “updating your spirit” on a regular basis?  The Holy Spirit is your lifeline, for your whole life, for every situation, every circumstance, now throughout eternity.  Yes, you can operate somewhat within the spirit without your “updates”, but you’ll never get where you want to be by doing so.  The Apostle Paul said in Romans 12:1-2;
Rom 12:1  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Rom 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
    Therefore, I say unto you, a woman wouldn’t give birth to a baby, then just put it in its crib and walk away forever, no, she would nourish and feed that child, and teach it as it grew up.  Well, it’s the same in the spirit realm.  God isn’t satisfied to just birth you, but He wants to grow you up into all you can be in Christ Jesus, and that is more than you could possibly imagine.  But what if a baby refuses its bottle?  Can you make it eat?  No, and if it doesn’t it will wither away and die.  Same thing goes in the spirit realm:  God has good food for you along the way, if you’ll just take it in.  His Word will teach you how to be safe when the enemy attacks, how to thrive when everyone around you is failing, and how to be settled and joyful when in adversity, and how to stay well and healthy all your life.  And yes, that’s one of the “benefits”.  Go look it up for yourself, it’s in Psalm 103:2-3.  You want the benefits?  Then keep updating your spirit every day!  Don’t be a bonehead and think you have enough already.  God has no end of good things for you, but it’s up to you to update your spirit!
