We can all remember the dreaded “busy signal” when we tried to call someone on the phone, and their line was busy because the phone was either off the hook, or else they were talking to someone else.  What if your call is really important, and you can’t get through to the party you are trying to call?   When God calls you, does He get a busy signal?

Today we have so very many things that are competing for our attention, and though we are good at multi-tasking, there is only so much we can handle at once.  And that is why on our daily list of priorities that God seems to get pushed to the bottom of the list.  It isn’t that we mean to push God to the side, but it’s just that we’re BUSY!!  But the reason we are so stressed and busy is because we DID push God to the side.  You see, if you put Him at the top of the list, He can put the rest of your life in its proper order, and that doesn’t mean you won’t still have to work and do your daily stuff, but you will be able to do it without stress.

There is a degree of stress that grows strength.  If you sit in your easy chair all day and never lift anything, your muscles and bones get weak.  By lifting weights, thereby putting stress on your muscles, tendons, and bones, they develop immunity to that particular stress by getting stronger, to the point that load becomes light and you are able to handle more load.  Is the stress YOU are under making you stronger, or weaker?  If it is making you weaker, then that should tell you something…..

God knows what He designed you to handle, and indeed you SHOULD have some load on you in order to make you stronger.  But it should be HIS load, not the load of YOUR choosing.  But you have made yourself so busy doing whatever, that when the Holy Spirit is trying to talk to you, He gets a busy signal, and His important guidance to you cannot get through.  Let’s see what Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30 about burdens:
Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

You see, the reason you’re stressed out is because you’re trying to carry a load that God did not design you to carry.  You’re not a pack-mule, you know.  The problem is, you’ve taken your phone off the hook, or you’re so busy dealing with your burdens, that you are unable to hear the still, small, quiet voice of the Holy Spirit calling you, and you won’t hang up so God can speak to you.  Now, you know how displeasing it is to you to hear a busy signal when you’re trying to reach someone, how do you think God feels when He gets a busy signal from YOU when He’s trying to help lighten your load.  Do yourself a big favor right now.  Stop right where you are and get on your knees before the LORD and turn your schedule over to Him and let Him order your steps, not only today, but every day.  He knows how to set up your days so you become stronger and stronger, instead of getting stressed out.  Keep the lines of communication open between you and God, and if anything threatens to create a “busy signal” in your life that would separate you from Him, right away recognize it has to be removed from your life, and do it.  Think about the future: in ten thousand years from now, the only important thing is your relationship with Christ Jesus.  Everything else is “junk”.  The apostle Paul sums it up like this:

Php 3:8  Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
Php 3:9  And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
Php 3:10  That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
Php 3:11  If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
Php 3:12  Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
Php 3:13  Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
Php 3:14  I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Php 3:15  Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

Put God at the very top of your priority list right now and keep Him there, and you will see a whole new life develop for you, one of peace and joy, no matter what is going on in the world around you.  The devil is always at work to try to keep you so tied up chasing loose ends that you won’t have time to pursue God.  And you’ve had enough of the stress, right?  The busy signal God has been getting from you has been keeping you out of the peace of God. Don’t you see that?   Know God, know peace.  No God, no peace. The solution is simple, don’t put it off.  Call upon Jesus right now. You won’t ever get a busy signal from Him.
